Cutting-edge kitchen catharsis
Thursday, February 02, 2006

This Italian designed Voodoo Knife Display is painfully sharp in its originality and design. It's also my "I gotta have this" item of the moment.

Seriously, look at this thing. When it comes to storing knives, I can't think of a method that better fits my macabre sense of humor. This is the ultimate kitchen conversation piece.

When I first discovered this product, the only online shops to carry it seemed to be in the UK. Well, I assume they were British, anyway. They were asking me to pay in pounds, but the only pounds I ever carry are around my waist.

I also found a place in Australia selling the voodoo knife set. But like most of these foreign vendors, they didn't want to ship overseas. Something about exporting weapons via aircraft or some such excuse.

I eventually located this place in the US offering the unique knife block. Interestingly, when marketed over here, the product name was changed to "The Ex." What does this say about us? Compared to countries like England, are we Americans more bitter and vengeful when it comes to love?

If I buy this item, I won't be calling it as "The Ex." I have no desire to stab any of my exes in the head, chest or leg. Well... maybe just the leg. No, I'm kidding.

The $80 price tag doesn't make me want to immediately whip out my credit card, though. I suppose that's not a bad price for a set of five durable stainless steel knives and a piece of fashionable modern art. But my crafty brain thinks I might be able to make something similar for cheaper.

I'm picturing a human figure carved out of wood, in a way that's a little more rough and tribal. Something that looks more like the classic voodoo doll image. In fact, that might be a better match in my tiki lounge kitchen. Any talented woodworkers out there want to take a stab at it?

Stop being a cheapskate!! That knife set sells for a whooping $146-319 on other U.S. websites! Besides, when it comes to offending people in the kitchen, you can never spend too much money!

When I get the chance, I'm totally making one of these.

I had seen this a while back, and I was under the impression that it was only "art" and they weren't being manufactured. I'm not crafty, so I think I'll cough up the cash.

My friend has this in red - but she also had a little red hat from a tequila bottle balanced on top of the man.

hmm. How "Tiki" Do you want it to be? I can make something like that but It would be best if it matched your "Tiki-decor"

I envision a tikimask on a body similar to the one posted in your blog. Ill have a 'stab' at it and send you some pics :D

hmm. How "infectiony" do you want it to be? I could make something similar out of raw chicken parts, but it would be best if you enjoyed salmonella.

Wouldn't you rather buy something that you know won't harvest bacteria?

When you put it that way, Chad... yea, I think I might go with some sterile plastic.
