Return of the living dead man
Monday, January 30, 2006

If you know anything about me, you know I'm a fan of Rob Zombie. The movies, the comics, the cartoons. Count me in. I just love the image and attitude oozing from this demonoid phenomenon. I mean, c'mon... the man actually had his name legally changed to Zombie. And then built a career that lives up to this unique surname. This inspires me to chase similar goals. I'd like to treat every day like it's Halloween. Not just because it's fun... but because it's my job.

Of all Rob Zombie's endeavors, it's the music that interests me most. So I'm ashamed to admit that I've never seen him perform live. And I thought I might never get that chance after he announced that he "was sort of sick of touring, truthfully" and giving it up to focus on his film career.

But he supposedly had some new songs half-written, so I held out hope for a new album and tour. And patience is rewarded. According to MTV.com, Zombie just put the finishing touches on his first all-new album in almost five years, titled "Educated Horses." The CD will be unearthed on March 28, and a North American tour will reanimate on March 16.

There's no way I'm missing out this time around. But the question is... will this now-40-year-old rocker tone down his stage act? Or -- if he really means it when he says "it seems like the old days" -- can we expect the same hallucinogenic spookshow that Rob Zombie is known for?

I'm sure some of you think that a concert should be just about the music. But seriously folks... who doesn't enjoy a little strobe light and smoke machine action now and then? And when it comes to Rob Zombie, the kaleidoscopic spectacle is half the fun. What's a Zombie show without behemoth monster heads, searing bursts of flame, and dancing go-go ghouls?!

Well, either way, I already know exactly where I'll be on the night of March 28.

Hey Ryn! So get this, I had my best friend who didn't want to go to a concert alone (girls - what gets into them?), and so begged me to shell out money for a guy whose music I had never heard before. Okay, so I did. It was Rob Zombie at the Universal Ampitheater, the last time he was touring! Freakin' awesome show, although he did keep carrying on about this movie he was going to be putting out soon called House of a Thousand Corpses... Ah well... I've been a Rob Zombie fan since.

Hey, it's currently March and I just saw Rob Zombie perform in the Global Gathering tour down in Miami, FL.

Were you there?

Ryn said: March 28, 2006, 03:39 AM

No, I wasn't in Miami. I'm a big fan, but I don't follow Mr. Zombie that far from home. The concert I'm going to is tonight, in NYC.

How was your show?
